Rams Bank On Fighting Spirit

By any measure, a 2-2 draw against traditional S-League giants Warriors FC is a good result to kick off any season.

Especially for a team like Woodlands Wellington, who completed an unwanted hat-trick of consecutive wooden spoons last year.

In truth, the Rams could very well have earned all three points, had Moon Soon Ho buried an early penalty or goalkeeper Yazid Yasin not presented the Warriors a second equaliser.

Coach Salim: I Am Not Worried About Loss

The Rams coach admitted that his less experienced opponents were hungrier for the win but is confident that the defeat is nothing to worry about.

An early goal from Harimau Muda youngster Maxsius Musa was cancelled out by a stunning strike by Khalid Hamdoui for Woodlands Wellington as both sides clashed on Tuesday night, but the home side's hard work was undone when goalkeeper Ahmadulhaq Che Omar swiped at his own player instead of the ball to allow Yazid Zaini a simple finish as the Malaysians came away with a 2-1 victory.

10-Men Woodlands Suffer A Narrow Loss To A Youthful Harimau Muda B Side

Woodlands Wellington FC tasted defeat for the first time this season in their second game of the season at the hands of a young and determined Harimau Muda B side on home soil.

All it took was one goal to separate the two sides as the match ended in a 2 - 1 loss for the Rams. Two goals, one in the opening 10 minutes and the other in the last 10 minutes, were enough to cancel out Khalid Hamdoaui’s brilliant 74th minute equalizer.

Salim Remains Bullish About Rams' Prospect

Salim Moin is confident his Woodlands Wellington side can finish in the top three of the Great Eastern-YEO's S.League despite Tuesday's 2-1 home loss to Harimau Muda.

Salim had boldly tipped Woodlands, who ended the past three campaigns bottom of the pile, for a top-three finish this season following a slew of astute new signings to strengthen the squad.

Harimau Muda capitalised on an error-strewn performance by hosts Woodlands Wellington to run out 2-1 winners in Tuesday's Great Eastern-YEO's S.League encounter.

Although both teams' initial preparations at the Woodlands Stadium were disrupted following a 30-minute delay to the start of the game due to a heavy downpour, the Young Tigers started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 9th-minute through highly-rated forward Maxsius Musa.

SSC Implement LWS System

The new season has just barely kicked off with the revised kick off timing changed to 7.30pm instead of 7.45pm. Although there isn’t any games being called off due to inclement weather as yet, fans must have wished that some games were rather called off than be delayed due to the new initiative from Singapore Sports Council (SSC).

Match Officials Get Into Negative Limelight As Rams And Warriors Share The Spoils In Season Opener

If there was one factor which would deny the fact that it was a contender for the best Woodlands game in years, it would be a series of dubious decisions by the match officials.

In a game which very much seemed like a cup final, with an electrifying atmosphere created by a crowd of 2,022 spectators including students from St. Gabriel’s secondary school, Woodlands Wellington FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Warriors FC. This traditionally-exciting match had well proved its excitement as the home side in the stands was literally packed like never before, which left some Woodlands fans with no choice but to sit at the stands on the opposite side of the pitch.

Great write-up on the match by Muhammad Yazid and Sean Tan.

The Woodlands coach was delighted with his team's performance and hopes they carry on the same way

Goals from Sufian Anuar rescued the Warriors’ opening match after falling behind twice to strikes from Soon Moon Ho and S.League debutant, Khalid Hamdoui.
