Even though the northerners have secured the unwanted record of finishing bottom three seasons in a row, their performances this year are a huge improvement over the ridiculed and short-lived era of R. Balasubramaniam, Salim Moin’s predecessor as head coach last season.

The Rams have demonstrated plenty of spirit, skill and determination in battling against higher-ranked opponents this term, but lacked the ingenuity and guile for the breakthrough their work rate deserved.

For many, Sunday evening’s Great Eastern-YEO’S S.League game at Woodlands Stadium might not offer very much appeal, not least due to the wretched fortunes endured by home side Woodlands Wellington.

The Rams have had a miserable season in 2012, after a bright start made up of back-to-back opening wins gave way to a quick plunge to the bottom of the table, a position they have rarely looked capable of avoiding come the end of the campaign.
