Rams’ Misery Continues

Source of Photo: Axross The Line

Woodlands Wellington came into this game looking to rediscover their season opening form, but their misery continued as Hougang United left with maximum points after last week’s disappointment. Kick off though, was delayed for 15 minutes, as the doctor was not present.

Excuse Me, I Am lost!

Sometimes I wonder, am I suffering from 'Directional Dyslexia'?

Once I begin travelling alone, I am not able to find my way to many places. Even with planning beforehand, I am still unable to travel too far on my own without getting seriously lost.  It looks like my inner "GPS" don't work too well.  I can follow maps perfectly, but when I come to the scene, I am lost ~ I cannot tell whether I am heading north, south, east, or west.  I always asked myself: How come the distance from point A to point B looks so short on the directory map, but in real life situation looks like the Silk Road to me?

It is a standing joke among my collegues that if I walked beside a longkang [drain] I might end up in Singapore River. Is this real? Of course  they have exaggerated but it isn't a joke that I have a horrific sense of direction.  Some of them laughed at me and asked: "How on earth can you get lost in a small country like Singapore?"  I proceed to tell them: "Well, if I knew that, I wouldn't be lost!"

Just yesterday I was trying to find the entrance to the grand stand at Jalan Besar Stadium and I was so embarrassed and upset over it. Not only was I embarrassed but also stressed because I was literally going in circles.   I had passed the one and only coffee shop thrice and the stall holders were starting to eye me up and down. I got clear and detailed directions from my son  and yet a moment later I got them confused, so much so that he had to come out to look for me.

To be alone, lost, and disoriented without a sense of direction is one of the worst and the more I panic, the worse it gets. I can only attribute the feeling of frustration and panic I feel, when I'm lost, to being the same as someone who is losing their memory.

Happy Black Sheep = One Happy Family

Of all the the things I’ve done in life, and of all the experiences I have had in my many decades on this planet, I have never in my life attended a football game.  I just didn’t understand why people run back and forth, back and forth, trying to catch up with a ball?

So, in the interest of try everything in life at least once and expanding the breadth of life experiences, I jumped at the opportunity to go see a football game last night, at the invitation of my son.  Did I catch all the action?  Well, not really.  Having my glasses left at the office, I was practically as blind as a bat.  But honestly, I know very little about the rules of football, and could hardly followed the pace of the game.

Believe it or not, I even cheered for the wrong team!  My son told me: "Mother, wrong team, wrong team.  You are suppose to cheer for our players who are in blue!"  OH~ thank God I am not colourblind as well.  And by the start of the second half, I had almost comfortably settled down and slowly trying to digest the game with strained eyes.   So that's part of the game, part of the learning process.

Talking about the supporters...have you ever been utterly swept away by a stranger’s warm hospitality?  I was a little worried at first that I might not fit into the crowd owing to age and the lack of  footballing knowledge.  But the Black Sheep gang welcomed me with open arms, and they were so friendly, fun and they had  thought of every kindness. You guys made me felt like at home with a family.  It was not long that I was clapping in rhythm with their joyful chanting and trying to follow along.

Wait, that was not all~ for another surprise awaited me.  In the midst of the game, a chubby Caucasian sitting close to us suddenly started to bellow at the top of his voice.  His face was red and looked like he just came out from one of the nearby watering holes .  Suddenly he took off his shirt and start waving it around, while still shouting something which I can't quite make out what he was trying to convey.

At first it was a bit embarrassing, but later I found him awfully amazing.  Nobody seemed to know where he came from and which team was he cheering for.  As there were a couple of foreign players in both team, we took it that he was one of the player's friend.  But after a short while, he got up and staggered his way out of the stadium, leaving most of us puzzled.  A boozer that had made the wrong turn and lost his way?

It wasn't till a few days later, that I found out that the man was none other than the world's top streaker, Mark Roberts, who had run naked during many international events.   Luckily for us, we were spared of the embarrassing situation as he decided to keep the rest of his clothes on and not to run out to the pitch which he usually did.

Back to the game.  Another unforgettable moment of that night was how the wonderful Black Sheep supporters cheered for the team despite the big loss.  They continued to root for the team, singing and dancing and showering the place with tons of home-made confetti.  Everyone, including the children had a good time!  Who would believed we are the losing side?

Well done for the "Never Say Die" attitude! And Thank You so much for your amazing hearts and such a special and memorable evening!  You guys rock!!!
